We Are Here Background
Blythe Mendelson

Blythe Mendelson

Blythe has been an artistic butterfly since her early adult years as a preschool teacher.  Having earned a master’s degree in early childhood education, she has engaged children in a variety of settings - – education, refugees in America, hospital patients – helping them use the wonder of art to express themselves and communicate with their new surroundings and realities.  Being tasked with creating a piece of art that communicates the complexity of the We Are Here musical history, she created a unique Objet d’art that combines shattered glass (images of Kristallnacht), twine (a tool of enslavement), a hand-torched name tag of synagogues destroyed across Europe (representing the flame of destruction used on the Jewish community) and the hopefulness and aspiration of light….may there be a brighter future for all.

Blythe and her husband David live in Chicago and enjoy as much time as they can with their children Emily, Michael, Devin, and Mary Mendelson.
